Introduction

Clewer Green First School is a two-form entry first school in Windsor. This school is part of the Windsor Learning Partnership; we have also worked with another school in this partnership, Dedworth Green First School, which you can read about here.

Area of installation

Brief

After hearing about our upcoming installation at Dedworth Green, the school contacted us to find out how we could help them make the most of their EYFS playground. They wanted to have a similar design as Dedworth Green, where surfacing was used to create play elements for the children. They also wanted to utilize their existing play equipment, including a climbing frame, a timber decked stage and trim trail items. The school added that they wanted some sort of active trail integrated into the surfacing.

Solution

Our team came up with a design that completely brightened up the area using luxury artificial grass, as well as adding some new products that would complement and enhance the equipment that they already had. This is also cost-effective as it reduces the cost of area prep and makes the most of what they already have, while giving it a fresh new twist.

Project Details

Much of the transformation comes from using artificial grass to create a soft, bright, low-maintenance surface. We used blue and beige Multi-Play Artificial Grass to create a beach theme around the climbing frame and traverses with lily pad graphics, and added a Tunnel Mound with Luxury Green Artificial Grass.

Yellow and black artificial grass was used to create the construction zone, adding an element of role play and creativity to their area. We also added a Playground Skip to continue the theme and add storage, and Grass Top Seats for handy, moveable seating. We also added a a brand-new product, a Den Building Pyramid that children can throw fabric over to create a cozy nook or shelter.

In this playground, there was already a timber decked stage, mushroom seats and musical panels – as we knew the children loved these pieces already, we thought it was only right to expand on this by adding a personalised Playground Stage Backdrop with red artificial grass and stars graphics.

We also added freestanding equipment, like a Mobile Chalkboard to give the children somewhere to draw, colour and express themselves outside, and a Mobile Log Net Climber to help the children develop their agility, strength and coordination.

Result

The early years children at this school now have an amazing outdoor space that will facilitate their learning for years to come. The school is overjoyed with the project, and has taken to their social media to express how “absolutely epic” their new playground looks.
