Introduction
The Playground Company was delighted to work with Oldbury Park Primary School in Worcester, Worcestershire, to transform an existing outdoor play area with the installation of a brand-new, bespoke timber trim trail.
Designed to encourage physical activity, develop coordination and build confidence, the new playground obstacle course provides pupils with an exciting opportunity to challenge themselves through active outdoor play.

The Brief
Oldbury Park Primary School approached The Playground Company looking to replace its existing trim trail with new, durable timber playground equipment that would continue to encourage physical activity and outdoor exploration. The school wanted to make the most of its existing playground space, incorporating a variety of physical challenges while retaining the existing wetpour playground surfacing wherever possible.
The Solution
Our team designed and installed a bespoke timber trim trail, combining a variety of climbing and balancing activities to create an engaging physical play experience for pupils.
The new obstacle course incorporates several pieces of timber playground equipment, each designed to develop different physical skills:
4 x Balance Beams: Encouraging children to practise their balance, stability and coordination as they carefully navigate along the timber beams.
Jungle Traverse: A challenging piece of climbing apparatus that encourages upper-body strength, grip strength and coordination as children negotiate the suspended ropes.
Inclined Rope Traverse: Providing an additional physical challenge that helps develop balance, agility and body awareness through coordinated movement.
Triangle Traverse: Encouraging children to develop strength, spatial awareness and problem-solving skills as they navigate the triangular rope obstacle.
The bespoke trim trail was constructed using high-quality, treated timber playground equipment, selected for its durability and suitability for regular use within a busy primary school environment. The timber equipment is supplied with a standard 10-year guarantee, providing the school with reassurance regarding its long-term investment.
The Result
Oldbury Park Primary School now has a fantastic new timber trim trail, providing pupils with an exciting range of physical challenges to enjoy during breaktimes, lunchtimes and outdoor learning sessions.
By replacing the existing equipment and making use of the established playground surfacing, The Playground Company has helped Oldbury Park Primary School revitalise its outdoor play provision, creating a long-lasting space that promotes physical activity, confidence and enjoyment.
