Sports and Active Playground in Buckinghamshire

Introduction
Davenies School is a preparatory school in Buckinghamshire for boys aged 4 and 13 years with the mission to “Engage, Inspire and Challenge each child that attends the school” through their educational journey. The school implements a high-quality teaching and learning curriculum in their facility in Beaconsfield and wanted an outdoor area that reflected this.
Area of installation
Brief
After meeting with one of our playground consultants to discuss ideas and requirements, the school settled on an area that would provide the children with somewhere to climb as well as somewhere to play sports. The had mentioned that the boys at the school enjoyed basketball, so it was important to involve this in the design, as well as ensuring that the climbing equipment would be age appropriate for all ages in the school to be suitably challenged.
Solution
After discussing the brief, our design team came up with a design that would incorporate a large climbing structure, as well as a half basketball pitch with basketball hoop. The area was to have clear distinct zones; one for climbing, one for sports and another for seating and socialising.
Project Details
Climbing Frame
To ensure all the boys would enjoy the climbing frame, we knew it would have to be a large st5ructure with many physical play elements. We chose to install a Clamber Stack Passo as we believed this was the most suitable for the space and requirements. This clamber stack has features to develop different muscle groups and physical skills, including drop ropes, scramble net, traverse ropes and climbing logs. We installed Luxury Artificial Grass safety surface under the equipment.
Sports Pitch
We installed blue Multi-Play Artificial Grass with yellow lines to create a basketball key, along with a Basketball Backboard for the children to practise their sports skills. This artificial sports grass is perfect for many sports, including basketball, due to it being an all-weather surface with a shorter pile height.
Socializing Space
We created another zone in the area using lime green Funky Grass to create a designated zone separate from the physical play areas with the idea that the school could have benches, tables and seating in thus area.
Result
The school took to their newsletter to show how much the boys at the school were enjoying their new playground – we always love to see the impact a new outdoor area has on the children!
