Brief

Together Trust offers a person-centred approach to providing support for people with disabilities, autism and complex health needs, based in the North West. They delivery individual care, support and education to thousands of children and adults each year, as well as their parents and carers. The charity got in contact with us as they were fundraising to transform their garden into a better space for the children they support at their facility in Manchester.

Area of installation

Solution

Our design team came up with an amazing design that created an environment that was both inclusive and enriching. This vibrant outdoor area was designed with inclusivity at its core, ensuring that children of all abilities can enjoy, engage, and benefit from the space.

Project Details

Active Play

We installed inclusive and accessible physical playground equipment that would provide stimulation for the vestibular and proprioceptive senses - two critical systems that help children with balance, coordination, and body awareness. The vestibular system, responsible for balance, spatial orientation, and coordination, and the proprioceptive system, which helps children understand their body position and movement, play vital roles in a child’s physical, emotional, and cognitive development. When these systems are stimulated through movement and resistance-based activities, they can help improve attention, emotional regulation, motor planning, and overall well-being. Our design included products such as a Group Swing, Satellite Carousel, Spinner Bowl and In-Ground Trampoline to achieve this.

Seating Area

It was also important that the children had somewhere to use as a quiet zone – a space where they can take a break from the loud noises and stimulation of the playground. We added a Timber Tepee to achieve this, as it adds an element of imaginative play, as well as some Mushroom Seats to also make the space somewhere that encourages social interaction.

Creative Play

To encourage creativity and self-expression, we have added three Musical Play Panels that are post mounted to ensure wheelchair accessibility. There is also a Sliding Sandpit, to provide tactile stimulation as well as developing motor skills and mathematical knowledge.

All of our equipment is manufactured using treated, play-grade timber to ensure longevity, and conforms to BSEN 1176.

Result

The Playground Company was lucky enough to be invited to their ‘Garden Party’ to debut their new outdoor area.

“I always enjoy the chance to visit our playground installations, and stepping through the double doors at Together Trust was no exception. I was blown away by the vibrant colours of the new play area! One feature that stood out to me was the coloured grass 'zones'. They added a playful structure to the space and brought the whole area together beautifully. Every product complemented each other, and I loved the range of play opportunities available. Every area of this playground stimulates the senses, and I hope the children enjoy it for many years to come.” – Jessica, Brand Manager
