Playground MUGA in Bradford

📍Cullingworth Village Primary School, Bradford
🗓 October 2024

Introduction
Cullingworth Village Primary School in Yorkshire are a primary school serving children aged between 4 and 11 years old in Bradford. The school prides itself on providing their pupils with a safe, welcoming, happy and healthy school – having an outdoor space that reflected these values was extremely important.
Area of installation

Brief
The school met with our Senior Playground Consultant, Anna, to discuss their plans for a sports zone. This space would facilitate sports matches, inter-school tournaments and PE lessons for KS1 and KS2 children in the future. The area also needed to be used all year round; this had become a problem with the grass area that the new space was situated on, as it became muddy and unusable during the winter months.
Solution
Our solution was to install a 30m x 20m Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) that would be a facility for multiple different sports. This also includes a weather proof surface, meaning the pitch can be used all year round, even during wet weather.
Project Details
We used Multi-Play Artificial Grass as the MUGA surfacing, with red lines for basketball, yellow lines for netball and white lines for football. This artificial sports grass was installed onto base works, to make a smooth and consistent base, and with a Herringbone Drainage System to allow suitable drainage and prevent puddling on the pitch.
Twin Wire Mesh Fencing was installed around the pitch perimeter with a single access gate. Within the fencing, we integrated two Senior Goal Ends which have goal posts for football as well as a hoop for basketball and netball.
The final touches were added with a Bespoke Centre Circle in the middle of the sports pitch, adding personal touch to the area.
Result
Once the project was completed, we had the pleasure of returning to see the children use the area for the very first time. Watching the first ball being kicked on the pitch was an amazing experience, and seeing the children’s faces is something that our team will never forget.
This area is now not only an area to play sports but has become a pivotal part of the CVPS community - a space for their sports days, fundraising event and everything in between!
