Physical Play at Mandeville Primary School

📍Mandeville Primary School, Sawbridgeworth
🗓December 2024

Introduction
Mandeville Primary School is primary school in Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire, that was recently established as two-form entry, rather than single-form entry, to accommodate the growing population around the school. The school identifies the emphasis of physical development and encourages children to take pride in their achievements – which is why having a new outdoor space that reflected their values was so important.
Area of installation

Brief
As their premises were growing and more children were coming to the school, they wanted an ‘exciting playground environment’ with active play equipment for their KS1 pupils to use during break and lunch times. After meeting with Martin, they decided they wanted to use the space as a physical play area, where the children can burn off energy as well as developing their strength and gross motor skills.
Project Details
To maximise their space and their budget, we opted to install a Clamber Stack Sorella with linked Trim Trail items. Our range of Clamber Stacks are a great active play feature by aiding children with their physical development while maintaining a natural, woodland look.
We chose a variety of pieces from our trim trail collection, that ensured the development of different muscle groups while providing opportunities for different types of movement. This included a Log Traverse to develop leg muscles and core strength when children balance across the logs, Hillside Scramble Net that provides multi-level play and gets children moving their whole body when climbing, Balance Beams and Stepping Logs, that children can balance across to reach the different trail components.
As all the equipment we chose was low level, there was no need for safety surfacing, however we did install Luxury Green Artificial Grass to the area to prevent the space becoming muddy from the natural grass during wetter months, ensuring the children can use the playground all year round. Artificial Grass is a great option for playgrounds as it is soft, low maintenance and durable.
Result
During the installation, the school posted in their newsletter “Installation has already commenced, and we are all looking forward to seeing our children using this wonderful new space in the very near future”. We love hearing about the excitement around the new project and can’t wait to see how much the children enjoy it!
