📍Farcliffe Children's Centre, Bradford

Introduction
Farcliffe Children's Centre is a community hub for the people and families that hold events, activities and groups for the people and families in Bradford West. The centre already had a larger playground for older children but needed a space for children aged 0 to 5 to enjoy. As the centre is such a vibrant hub in the community, they asked what would be valued most in the new outdoor space, and the community voted for sensory play and a nest swing for the children.

Project Details
Shelter and Shade
It was important that this area was able to be used all year round by the younger children using the community centre, so we created a design that included a Playground Canopy, to provide shelter and shade throughout the year. We added coloured skylights to create visual stimulation and brighten up the space.
Sensory Play
As the community had voted for sensory play, we opted to create a quiet sensory zone under the canopy, by adding Tactile Play Panels and Musical Panels under the canopy. This provides tactile stimulation as well as a creative outlet for children to play the instruments.
Sand and Water Play
We included water play in the design in the form of a Free Standing Water Wall, where children can move the chutes around to create different channels for the water to flow, and a Water Tub. We also added a Sliding Sandpit, that provides ample space for children to play in and can be covered when not in use.
Creative Play
To ensure that the space was adaptable and versatile, we added moveable creative play items that can be moved around when needed. Our Mobile Chalkboard and Mobile Paint Station give children the chance to draw, write and express themselves freely using a range of mark making materials.
Timber Group Swing
We knew that a Group Swing was a must for this space, but as our standard Timber Group Swing would be too large for the area, we chose a Mini Timber Group Swing for the space. This is a great way to add a swing that provides vestibular stimulation, while reducing costs and saving space in the area.
Luxury Artificial Grass Surfacing
Another way to ensure the space was usable all year round, we chose to add Luxury Artificial Grass throughout the area. This creates a soft, durable surface for the children to sit and play on throughout the year, without the worry of the ground being too hard, wet or muddy. As our Artificial Grass is available in a range of colours, it also gave us the opportunity to add pops of colour throughout the area, making it easy to zone into different areas of use.
Outcome
Farcliffe Children's Centre now has an amazing outdoor play space for their younger visitors that truly showcases what a vibrant community hub the space is.
