In-Ground Trampolines & Artificial Grass at Minerva May School

Brief

The school wanted to introduce new opportunities for physical play while creating a bright and inviting outdoor environment that would be practical for everyday school use.

The brief was to install two in-ground trampolines alongside colourful artificial grass surfacing, providing a dedicated area where children could be active and enjoy a fun, stimulating playground environment.

As part of the wider development, additional artificial grass surfacing was also installed to extend the play area, incorporating contrasting green and blue sections to create a colourful and visually engaging finish.

Solution

Working closely with Minerva May School, The Playground Company designed and installed a bespoke outdoor play area centred around two in-ground trampolines. Approximately 38m² of purple Multi-Play Artificial Grass was initially installed around the trampolines. The colourful surfacing helps to define the play zone while providing a practical, hardwearing surface for a busy school environment. To support the in-ground trampolines, approximately 26m² of 35mm shockpad was installed beneath the relevant areas to provide impact attenuation for the critical fall height of the equipment.

The artificial grass was installed over a prepared base, including a compacted Type 1 MOT foundation, heavy-duty weed suppressant membrane and compacted granno layer. This created a smooth and consistent foundation ready to receive the artificial grass surface. The artificial grass was selected from a range of available colours, allowing the school to create a bright and distinctive playground design. The Multi-Play Artificial Grass also benefits from a 10-year product guarantee.

Project Details

Two In-Ground Trampolines

The two in-ground trampolines provide an exciting addition to the school's outdoor play provision, encouraging children to jump, move and be physically active during outdoor play.

Being installed flush with the surrounding playground surface, the in-ground design creates a neat and integrated appearance while making effective use of the available outdoor space.

Colourful Artificial Grass Surfacing

The trampoline area was finished with approximately 38m² of purple Multi-Play Artificial Grass, creating a bold and colourful focal point within the playground.

As part of a subsequent extension to the area, a further 84m² of artificial sports grass was installed, incorporating:

• 42m² of green Multi-Play Artificial Grass

• 42m² of blue Multi-Play Artificial Grass

• A hardwearing artificial grass surface suitable for regular school use

• A colourful, contrasting design to extend the play area

The additional surfacing was designed to complement the existing installation and create a larger, more versatile outdoor space.

The completed project has transformed the outdoor area at Minerva May School into a bright, colourful and active playground space.
