EYFS Sensory Garden

📍Alexander First School, Windsor
🗓 March 2025

Brief
The school got into contact with us as they wanted to create an area in their Foundation Unit that would facilitate the teaching and learning of their curriculum in their outside space. They wanted a Sensory Garden that would help the children in the seven areas of learning.
Area of installation

Solution
For this project, our team came up with a design that combines physical activity with imaginative play and outdoor learning, by incorporating adventure play equipment with playground markings and a timber canopy.
Project Details
The new playground provides a space for children to develop agility, balance and coordination with Grass Blocks that they can use to make their own trails to run and climb across, as well as a Roadway where they can ride their bikes and scooters while learning about real-world road safety.
As well as physical play, the playground also provides sensory output in various forms, such as the Tactile Pergola that adds an exciting entrance to the area while providing tactile stimulation with play panels. Also, the hammock provides children with a space to relax and stay calm, helping them to regulate their emotions, by providing gentle vestibular stimulation.
Another element of the project was utilizing their existing grass slope, by adding a Hillside Scramble Net for the children to climb up and across.
Result
We were very happy with the outcome of this project, and we were very pleased to see the school were too. They even took to social media to show off the area and say how patient the children had been while watching the workmen do the install.
