Introduction
Icknield School is based in Andover, Hampshire, and provides education for children with a range of learning needs. The school were looking to transform an existing outdoor area, creating a fresh, engaging and hard-wearing space for pupils to enjoy throughout the year.
Background
The school approached The Playground Company to develop an existing playground area that was in need of improvement. The project involved removing the existing artificial grass surface and preparing the area ready for a completely new surface and design.
The aim was to create an attractive and practical outdoor environment that would make better use of the existing space, while introducing playful features that could encourage imaginative play and exploration.
Project Details
As part of the project, we supplied and installed approximately 215m² of Luxury Artificial Grass Surfacing, providing a durable and low-maintenance surface suitable for everyday school use.
The new design incorporates a number of themed elements to bring the playground to life. A 26m x 1m roadway, complete with white road markings and a zebra crossing, creates an exciting route for children to explore and incorporates opportunities for imaginative and role play.
A contrasting turquoise funky artificial grass river was also introduced into the design, creating a colourful feature within the playground and helping to establish a more playful, themed environment.
To complete the transformation, we also supplied and installed approximately 16 linear metres of Timber Bow Top Fencing, replacing the existing timber fencing surrounding the decking area. The new fencing includes both single and double access gates and provides a neat, secure boundary around the newly developed space.
The combination of the new artificial grass, themed roadway, river feature and fencing has transformed the existing area into a brighter and more engaging outdoor environment for the school.
A Complete Playground Transformation
By working closely with the school and designing the new surface around their existing space, we were able to create a bespoke playground that combines practicality, durability and imaginative play.
The new surfacing provides a consistent all-weather play surface, while the roadway and river features introduce opportunities for children to explore, create their own games and use their imagination.
The finished space demonstrates how an existing playground can be completely refreshed through thoughtful surfacing and design, without the need for extensive play equipment.
